A Montevallo Monday

Although I am incredibly excited about T Swift’s new album coming out today… I have to admit I might be even more excited about this fella’s album. If I have to choose one to purchase, his is a no brainer. Do yourself a favor and go purchase the album. Seriously, the whole thing. I’m not one to commit to a whole album. Needtobreathe might be the only artist I have several complete albums of. But I could either buy this album all in one swoop or individually buy each track, either way every song is legit. Maybe listen to track 10 on repeat.

Every morning as we drive to work (yes I get to carpool with my best friend.. life is sweet), we listen to the Bobby Bones show. We loved Bobby to start with, but then he brought Sam on last week. Let’s just say Bobby has a total bro crush on Sam. He loves him. And you should love him too.

|Down for Dixie Friday|

Sometimes by the time you get to Friday, you just need to put the ear phones in and blare Dixie Chicks while you finish the last few tasks on that weeks to do list.

TODAY IS ONE OF THOSE DAYS.

Wide Open Spaces, Sin Wagon, Landslide, and Goodbye Earl are my best friends right now. And if the tunes aren’t to your listening pleasure, perhaps the throwback of pink pleather boots, butterfly clips, and shirts with a collar will be enough to make you smile.

Happy Friday! Here’s to the weekend and best-of-all-time girl trios. Maybe next Friday will be |Down for Destiny Friday| (yup, adding that to my calendar).

|My Kind of Madness|

Moving to NC I knew I was going to encounter basketball fanatics. That part was expected. However, I had no idea how consumed the entire region would be over March Madness. I’m quickly finding out the entire country is consumed with it- I just didn’t have friends that were until I moved here so I lived in peaceful ignorant bliss.

Never in my life have I been so pressured to fill out a bracket and join in on all the festive banter between fans. Don’t worry… I have withheld the past two years, I’m going to keep my neutral state among these discussions.

This week though, I saw a post that was like manna from heaven. March Music Madness…. PURE GENIUS. Now this is a bracket that I can get behind.

Also, Ryan Secrest has his own version of March Music Madness with rounds of killer covers. Since I recently saw frozen, I was dying over the frozen battle. Here are my two favorites!

Yes, my kind of madness indeed.

|Two is Better Than One|

From a young age, I learned duos are where the magic is at.  Rock Hudson & Doris Day, Mary Kate & Ashley, & of course, Zack & Kelly… duos have always been my first love.

duos

Lately, I have been smitten over some new duos on the music scene that make my ears perk up and my heart jump each time I hear a song coming on. (forewarning: new to my music scene could mean they’ve been around for awhile… I just finally clued in.)

|click on the pictures to enjoy a video of each of these dueling duos|

All-Sons-Daughters

I eagerly await new songs from each of these, but for now, I’ll just keep them on repeat. Also, enjoy the Spotify playlist He Said|She Said, full of sweet sounding harmonies.

I love when the Lord knows exactly the words I need to hear. I love it even more when He does it through a new song/artist on the radio. It such a sweet reminder at how perfectly He orchestrates our lives. He knew the exact moment I would enter my car today and He knew the exact song I needed to hear. Tenderly speaking to His child through music.

This is the version that I heard this morning. A different version is available on itunes but this was is a little more my pace. Check out these powerful, heartfelt lyrics.

Hurting heart and broken wings
Cannot stop Your love from always finding me
No more days wasting away
I finally realize the gift inside of me

My strength alone will never be enough
But Your arms keep lifting me up

You tell me I’ve been made free
You give me everything I need to walk in my dreams
You whisper words that free my soul
You’re the reason I have hope
You’re everything I need and more
You made me
You made me free

I was caged in, then You opened
Every door that held me bound and You gave me the key
No more pressure I can just breathe
The girl I tried so hard to be, has always been me

My strength alone will never be enough
But Your arms keep lifting me up

You tell me I’ve been made free
You give me everything I need to walk in my dreams
You whisper words that free my soul
You’re the reason I have hope
You’re everything I need and more

Now I’m free to love, free to live,
Free to take my life and give it all to You

You tell me I’ve been made free
You give me everything I need to walk in my dreams
You whisper words that free my soul
You’re the reason I have hope
You’re everything I need and more
You made me
You made me free
You made me
You made me free

Praying for that freedom today. Freedom for anyone who is held captive by anything other than a Heavenly Father. Lord, captivate my heart today.

I am blessed with friends that love good music. Often times I think I have found this cool new artist and I tell my friends about them… the response I get is “Oh yeah, they’ve been around awhile” or “You’ve never heard of them?!”. I simply remind them that they are my source into the artist world and its fresh faces. These are the wonderful musicians I have been listening to lately. Click on the photogs to check em out.

Drew Holcomb & the Neighbors: Favorite song- Someday, Live Forever, Fire & Dynamite, Steal My History (okay, literally all of them!) Love them… and lead couple are married. too cute? je heart.

The Whits (starring Amy Lynn Whitcomb from The Sing Off)- they are just awesome. I personally love “Finally a Woman” and tend to rock out in my car by myself to it. This lady also does some killer covers.. pretty much every song I like her version better. Check out her Youtube channel. Oh.. and homegirl started following me on pinterest. Talk about an upper. I apologize to any friend that continuously had to listen to me say “Amy follows me, Amy follows me… hey guess what? Amy follows me.” Needless to say, it made my day.

Oh sweet Ella Mae Bowen. How could you not like an artist with the name like that?! She recently sang the remake of “Holding Out for a Hero” for the new Footloose. Killer remake. It is a rare that I like remakes but this one I lurved (spelled just for you Alex). Expecting big things from this pretty lady.  Her producer is also from my all time favorite band’s bass player- Seth Bolt (see below). All the more reason to like her! Oh.. did I mention she is 15? My life was not this cool at 15 I can guarantee.

Now, these fellas aren’t new to the scene nor to my ipod and heart. But because I just dig them so much they of course have to be on this post. Every album gets better and better. Follow them on twitter… equally hilarious and clever tweets come out. Not only do I love them as artists and clever twitterists but I love the messages their songs send (sometimes discretely).  Check out these from the current album.

“Slumber”

Days they force you
Back under those covers
Lazy mornings they multiply
But glory’s waiting
Outside your window
So wake on up from your slumber
Baby, open up your eyes

Tongues are violent
Personal and focused
Tough to beat with
Your steady mind
But hearts are stronger after broken
So, wake on up from your slumber
Baby, open up your eyes

All these victims
Stand in line for
The crumbs that fall from the table
Just enough to get by
All the while
Your invitation
Wake on up from your slumber
Baby, open up your eyes
Wake on up from your slumber
Baby, open up your eyes

oh.. ps. did I mention I am seeing them March 3rd? Be jeal…. or join!

Those the current favs and constant ipod choice. Now off to tap my toe.
